Visual Building is suitable for many different users with many different tasks, but all share a common feature- to create a 2D floor plan for a building, and then automatically view that 2D floor plan as a 3D model.

It is because Visual Building is a CAD program dedicated to buildings, that it is more intuitive to use than other generic CAD software. We have spent the last 20 years developing software for self-builders, architects and builders and so understand exactly what software you need. (see our history).

Here are some examples of how architects and builders are using Visual Building:

I need to communicate my designs to my clients

Not all clients will be able to fully understand a 2D plan, but they will be able to understand a 3D visuallisation. Visual Building will allow you to provide your client with good technical 2D plans and a 3D visualisation. This can save you a lot of time and and your client a lot money by ensuring that the 2D plan represents exactly what your client requires.

You can create plans for new builds, renovations, extensions and conservatories. You can then use those same plans to support the planning application.

Better presentations will also improve your ability to win new work.

I need plans for a planning application

Visual Building can produce plans required to support a planning application. We always recommend our self builder customers to use an architect to verify the plans content but many believe they have the necessary skills and experience.

This screenshot shows the new optional Ribbon bar user interface, which makes Visual Building more intuitive to use. Visual Building Professional was used to provide the multiple view layout for this project.

I want to demonstrate what an extension / conservatory will look like

Using either a photo or a 3D model of a house, you can view how a prospective conservatory or an extension will appear. You can even examine the effects of sun and shadow at different times of the year on the property or the neighbour's property.

This screenshot shows a conservatory built with Visual Building. There is a catalogue of standard conservatory styles, however you can also build a bepoke conservatory.

I'm just playing with a few ideas

Visual Building will quickly allow you to put down some 2D plans, either a room at a time or the complete building. You can maximise your living space and keep area used by services to a minimum with careful planning at this stage.

This screenshot shows the optional Toolbar user interface in which we are demonstrating an exploded view of a 3D model.

I want to demonstrate how to populate a plot of land

Draw the plot, adding terrain and slopes as required. Now draw out the external walls, and then play around with the internal wall layout, adding doors and windows. You can then place buildings within the plot, adjusting position and facing relative to the terrain and adjacent buildings.

This screenshot shows how you can define a sloping terrain and plan how your building will interact with the terrain using multiple levels.

I want to show existing building around a plot

Draw your plot. Create your building outlines and place. You can examine the effect of light and shadow created by each building, work out access and services and then move it all until you have the optimum plan.

This screenshot shows a project that includes buildings also created as separate projects. You can import and place different buildings or the same building multiple times to quickly create a plot layout.

I have drawn plans which I want to visualise in 3D

You create everything in the 2D plan and Visual Building will automatically create the 3D model. If you have drawings in DXF or DWG format, you can import these into Visual Building Professional, which will allow you to use it as a template to create your 3D model. It's surprising how some features that look OK in a 2D plan, become less attractive when viewed as a 3D model.

You can also import scanned plans, and use them as a template to trace your floor plan around.

I need software to help with my interior design

You can plan out your kitchen, bathroom or any room you need. Will the furniture fit? What will it look like? Visual Building will help you answer all of these questions.

This screenshot uses the 3D Kitchen 2 catalogue, although there are many kitchen furniture options in the standard catalogue.

Unless otherwise stated all the above example projects were created with Visual Building Basic.
