To use Visual Building Solar Designer beyond UK and Germany, you would need to do the following:

1. When entering the Irradience factor, instead of clicking on the UK / German map , you can manually enter the Power Yield per Year in the PV Unit Analysis - Power Yield per year box. (KWh / sq m). (Most users dont need to use the map input as they know their local Irradience factor anyway and usually enter that using the manual methos anyway.)

2. The actual Feed in tariff data are stored in the SolarConfig.xml file and looks something like:

<Category ItemName="2012-04-01">
<Option ItemName="Name" ValueType="21">to 01.04.2012</Option>
<Option ItemName="Comment" ValueType="21">(Dec 12th 2011 Review)</Option>
<Option ItemName="Level0" ValueType="6">0.239758453</Option>
<Option ItemName="Level1" ValueType="6">0.239758453</Option>
<Option ItemName="Level2" ValueType="6">0.191806763</Option>
<Option ItemName="Level3" ValueType="6">0.37562157668</Option>
<Option ItemName="Level4" ValueType="6">0.147280193</Option>
<Option ItemName="ExportTariff" ValueType="6">0.034251276</Option>
<Option ItemName="ImportTariff" ValueType="6">0.137005104</Option>
</Category>

3. All internal currency calculations are in Euros, but can be converted to local currency by editing the data in Unitconfig.xml

There is no easy way to convert the metric measurements to feet / inches.

4. Local location names, Latitude, Longitutude and timezone can be added in the Citydata.xml, but most world cities are already listed in this file, including Toronto:

-<Category ItemName="Toronto"> <Option ItemName="Latitude" ValueType="6">43.6757</Option> <Option ItemName="Longitude" ValueType="6">-79.378</Option> <Option ItemName="Timezone" ValueType="6">5</Option> </Category>

This data is used for the shadow display.

If you send me your local irradience factor anf feedin tariff rates, I can create for you.

PV calculations in North America? 08 Feb 2012 02:15 #115

Hi,

I am interested in using your software to work on proposals for PV projects in Toronto, Canada. There is a FIT program here in Ontario as well. Is there an option to switch countries when doing PV calculations (including calculations in Can $ instead of Euro) and is Toronto, Canada among locations that are available.

Thanks,

Vlad
