If Visual Building crashes or causes a Fatal Error report...

There is a log file that will give our support team an insight to the state of Visual Building should an unexpected error occur.

1. If Visual Building runs but crashes when performing a function:
You can access this log file via the Help tab in the Ribbon bar. In the Diagnosis group select Show log file.
Then copy to clipboard and paste into an email. If you use the Send via email feature, you will need to manually enter the support email address.

For the ribbon bar:

For the toolbar:

If you are having problems with a specific project, then please also send us a copy of your project.

Please try and give a detailed description of the steps you took that created the crash, and if the crash can be repeated.

2. If for any reason you can not start Visual Building then the log file can be located at:

C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Visual Building Professional 5 and is called app.log

Please also let us know your Visual Building version (e.g Visual Building Basic 4.0.1.26) and your hardware details , 32bit or 64 bit, and operating system version.

3. Our support may ask you to increase the logging level. Please only do this if requested as this action will place an additional overhead on the software during the diagnostic testing.

Locate the file CACAD.exe.config This is located in

C:\Program Files\Visual Building Premium 5\Program

(or C:\Program Files\Visual Building Pro 5\Program for Professional version)

This is an XML file that can be edited with a text editor. Copy this file to your desktop. Then edit the copy with Notepad or similar.

Locate the line (at about Line 37)
<add key="LoggingLevel" value="0"/>

and change to
<add key="LoggingLevel" value="100"/>

Save the file, and copy it back to

C:\Program Files\Visual Building Premium 5\Program

The level errors captured is now increased.

Try to recreate the problem and send us the app.log file.

If you are not confident in editing the CACAD.exe.config file, then copy it and email it to us. It is specific to your installation paths so we will need your version of this file.
