The two roofs that are to be merged need to be on the same building and layer. So if you have two roofs located on two different buildings, you will need to move one of the roofs onto the same building / layer as the other roof.

Select the roof, right click on it to activate the context menu and select Move to layer

Once you have both roofs on the same layer it will be necessary to register the roof is on a new layer, simply by double clicking on the roof to activate it's properties dialog and then close it again by clicking on OK.

You can now merge the roofs

I have a problem with mergeing two roofs on two adjoining buildings. I can only ever select one roof or the other but never both in order to merge them.
