The best way to browse the tiles available is from within the texture catalogue. Look in the following folder:

Textures - Materials - Roof Tile - Slate, where you will find several slate tiles. These files are just bmp images which you can easily create yourself. If you have a specific tile in mind, send us a link or email and we will create a tile for you as an example.

You can the drag the tile directly onto you roof (in 3D view).

To create your own tile image, use an image that is 256 x 256 pixels. The image also needs to be modified so that it is seamless, otherwise unwanted patterns will emerge.

Also once you have a tile you want to use you can always click the Save as default, so that the new tile becomes your default.

The default roof tiles seem to be "Frankfurter tiles" (presumably served with fried onions, mustard and ketchup...) and in the drop down I don't see any way to select English slate. So am I missing something?
