You can use the cursor keys to scroll the 2D view, or drag the 2D view while pressing centre mouse key/wheel if available.

On the visual building, you can zoom in, but it seems only from a fixed point, so the area you may want to look at disappears off the edge of the screen. How can I avoid this?
