View Handling in Visual Building

If this page was automatically opened from within the software, you have probably just created a second 3D view.
Creating multiple views is basically possible and one of the main features in Visual Building, but it could also indicate incorrect use of views.
Hence this note is to prevent that unnecessary views are generated. We had support requests with projects containing up to 100 views in a single project file....

Other and mainly older software packages usually switch between 2D and 3D views / mode. This does not happen in Visual Building, but all views are operated and updated in parallel.

Every time you click on the "New 2D View" or "New 3D View" button, a new and independent view is actually created, which of course also uses program resources.

If you use views in full screen mode, you will only see one at a time. You can switch between these existing views using the project viewer on the right, which also shows the building structure. At the bottom of this list you find the existing views. If necessary, click on the view you want to show and choose "Set as active element ..." from the context menu. This activates the view and puts it in the foreground. However, this is still no switching between 2D and 3D.

In a typical project, the list of views could include one 2D view for each floor, one or more sections and four elevation views, and one 3D view, i.e. approximately 10 views. But of course you can create as many as you want.

Note: some create multiple 3D views to keep a certain viewer position in that 3D view. But that is unnecessary. If you want to save a certain position in 3D so that you can easily jump back to an exact viewpoint at any time, use the “Set view point” functions on our "3D functions" ribbon.
