You need some form of light source to create the effect of colour, reflection etc. You can turn off the default light source with 3D Functions - Light Source, but you would then need to supply your own light source.

This reflects (pun) how light / colour works in real life. If there is no light source everything is black. The light source that you are wanting to switch off is the Sun.

Also see the 3D Functions - Display mode to change the effect of what you see, though you will still need a light source.

Is there anyway to turn off the light source so that you see the whole 3d image in full color?

I can see how you change the time of day that the light source uses but not a way just to turn it off.
