Here is a helpful introduction to scale when using Visual Building.

Remember that when you use the Zoom function you are not affecting the scale or paper size. Zoom and Scale are completely different. Zoom only affects how you see your project on the screen.

The scale that you need to work in depends upon:
• The size of the output medium, e.g. paper size A4, A3.
• The size of your plot / building that you wish to draw.

For example if you wish to print onto an A4 sheet Landscape, then the paper size is:
Width: 297 mm
Height: 210 mm

You should be aware that many printers are not capable of printing right up to the edge of your paper and you must take this into account.

So if the building plan that you wish to output to this A4 Landscape sheet is for example 10m x 10m, then it will be the paper height that will first determine the scale.
10m / 210 mm = 47.61

But you would not want to work in a scale of 47.61 : 1, so we would use the next best scale (rounding upwards) of 50:1. This would be quite tight and your building would only just fit on your paper.

A4 Sheet Landscape with scale 50:1
So you have several options:
• Use a larger size paper eg A3 which is 297mm x 420mm
• Choose a higher scale eg 100:1
• Print across 2 or more sheets of A4
• Print only a portion of the project

Using an A3 Landscape sheet:

A3 Sheet Landscape with scale 50:1

Normally the best solution would be to work in a new scale of 100:1

A4 Sheet Landscape with scale 100:1

You can change your scale and paper size and orientation at any time.

If you are not sure how big your project will be or to what size paper you will print to it can sometimes help to use a frame template. This is a rectangle template that outlines the border of your paper and will ensure you place your views and text within the borders of your selected paper size, orientation and scale.

There is also another project template available that shows the actual different paper sizes at different scales:
The following is a quick reference look up table that gives you the maximum building size that you can fit onto a single sheet. It makes no account for white space or dimension line around the building for which you can deduct 10% - 20%.
Applies to all versions of Visual Building

Is there an easy way to establish what size paper my project will fit on? Im never too sure which sale to use 1:50 or 1:100, which obviously then determines my paper size. Im cionfused how the zoom and scale are related.
