The default colour for guidelines is black. Change the colour to blue or red to more easily distinguish guide lines from other drawing lines. To do this right click on the guideline tool and select Appearance, from the next dialog you can change the guideline colour and style.

Remember you can hide and show guidelines any time using Guidelines On/off button on the Default toolbar.

You could also create a separate layer just for a set of guidelines which you can also hide / show as required. Such layers are created in the Projects tab. Just right click on a floor name and select Add layer.

And remember for guideline tools to work (and many other tools), you must have snap enabled (Right click on grid icon and select Snap).
