Standard wall construction types...

We took the approach than rather produce a large catalogue of wall sizes and different wall components we would provide a powerful wall construction tool. Every builder has their own definition of a "perfect wall construction" ranging from a single brick layer up to n number of layers. As you can see (in the video elsewhere in this topic) it is so easy to specify your own wall construction and then save it in your wall catalogue for future use.

Most walls have 4 layers:

Rain control layer
Air control layer
Vapour contol layer
Thermal control layer

And then possible decorative layers on either side. There are minimum and maximum sizes to be adhered to which can of course vary. Then there are those who want to draw an existing wall, built prior to regulations and many different layers and sizes.

Of course anyone wishing to submit their own wall constructions we will make available to all on this forum.

I cant believe that I missed this feature, and its in the Lite version too. When I saw the demo video I just assumed I would need to upgrade- but its a standard feature in all versions :). Do you have a set of standard wall constructions as used in the UK?

The Base Layer option defines to what layer in the wall the ceiling will extend to (or cut into). The default depth is 15 cm which can be set in the Wall properties dialog's General page (bottom left). In the Ceiling support section you can set the depth the ceiling cuts into the wall, or set Use layer construction, which will cause the ceiling to ignore the numeric value and use the Base Layer defined.

In the Layer construction, there is a option Base Layer. What does this do?

All versions of Visual Building support the cavity wall feature (multi layer walls).

See multi layer walls

Also... The material list has been updated to include materials required to support cavity walls. The material list is maintainef in aecMaterials.XML
